How we work

Our approach to coaching

Essence of coaching

The central principle is that learning and change occur throughout, and because of the relationship with a coach.

Coaching is effective when the relationship between the coach and the client is open, honest and mutually respectful. The relationship is one of partnership and the two people share and uncover knowledge, values, skills and experiences.

Value

Coaching facilitates professionals to lay the foundations for a high-performing, self-actualizing workplace through partnership, collaboration and believing in potential.

Benefits

Coaching is a form of learning and self-development. The client is guided through this journey of discovery by the coach deploying a combination of observational skills;  questioning, listening and feeding back to create a conversation that is rich in insight and learning including the following benefits:

  • Improved sense of direction and focus
  • Increased self-awareness
  • Improved ability to relate to and influence others
  • Increased energy and motivation
  • Increased personal effectiveness
  • Increased resilience and ability to manage change
  • Deeper and clearer understanding of personal values

Importance for leaders

Leadership is not just a set of skills. It is about the whole person, about their awareness of themself and their awareness of others. It is about how they “show up every day”.

Leadership extends beyond those that are direct report colleagues. It is about the connection between the leader and the purpose of the organisation, and it goes far beyond task and function, it is about belief in the culture and values of the shared vision.

Through coaching a client grows personally and therefore professionally as they contextualise, verbalise and act upon their growing understanding of themself and others.

Professional Approach

This is based on the Nine Principles of Effective Practice (O’Connor & Pakora)

The Learning Relationship is at the heart of change

The Context is work

The Client sets the agenda and is resourceful

The Coach facilitates learning and development

The Outcome is change

The Framework for the change process provides movement and direction

The Skills develop insight, release potential and deliver results

The Qualities of the coach affirm, enable and sustain the client

Ethical Practice safeguards and enhances coaching

Confidentiality

At the outset of the first session both parties will consider the working agreement and the limits of confidentiality that they can each offer, creating a mutually respectful and confidential relationship.

Supervision

Every three months, in line with professional standards the coach attends Supervision. The identity of clients is not disclosed in this professional session; the focus is on the coach.
